This project carried out a detailed evaluation of MCS assets and their cost effectiveness across the community. 

The project analysed the progression of capital expenditure for all Member States that received a Community financial contribution within the funding framework pursuant to Decision 2001/431/EC regarding all member states Monitoring, Control and Surveillance activities.  Furthermore the analysis of  the cost of administrating the Community contribution, in particular with the view to identify those categories for which it is most cost-effective to claim or  to grant a contribution.

The assessment also reviewed the contribution rate applied by the Commission as well as the provisions for claiming and granting the Community financial contribution with suggestions for possible simplifications and improvements for a future scheme of this nature.
