Each vessel participating in the toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides) and icefish (Champsocephalus gunnari) fisheries is required to carry at least one scientific observer, appointed in accordance with the CCAMLR Scheme of international Scientific Observation. Trawlers targeting krill (Euphausia superba) may also be required to carry an observer. MRAG provides the training, organisation and logistics associated with observer placements, including the supply and equipping of observers, travel to and from embarkation points, communication and coordination with fishing vessels. After each deployment MRAG check and verify the observer data and reports and submit them to CCAMLR.
