Technical Assistance to the Falkland Islands Vessel Monitoring System

Due to a period of enforced maintenance work being conducted on the Falkland Islands vessel monitoring system (VMS), several boats were transferred over to a parallel system operated by MRAG for a period of time. 

This process was critical for those vessels that required 100% coverage i.e. those vessels currently operating in fisheries where VMS tracking is required by the flag State.  For the Falkland Islands fleet this included a number of Falkland Islands flagged longliners that are either fishing or have applied to fish in CCAMLR for Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides).
