The aim of this project was to undertake research into the emerging activities that may impact St Helena’s marine environment over the next ten years. As part of the Blue Belt Programme, the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) requested research into the activities that are likely to present future pressures and threats to St Helena’s marine environment. MRAG with completed the fisheries and aquaculture sections of this research project.



The research included a summary of potential management options that will ensure that the rich biodiversity and unique natural ecosystems of St Helena’s Marine Protected Area (MPA) and that they are protected and enhanced in light of the pressures and threats identified. The MMO will use the research to inform its management advice to St Helena, which it provides through the Blue Belt Programme.
