The purpose of the specific contract was to conduct an analysis of ecolabel or other forms of communicating environmental information for fisheries and aquaculture products in the EU, to consult stakeholders and EU Member States and to run the feasibility study. The scope of the study includes both fisheries and aquaculture products as well as all products sold in the EU, regardless of their origin. The study aimed to help DG MARE to gather evidences, assess potential economic, social and environmental impacts and prepare analysis for supporting discussions of political decision-makers on the feasibility, cost-effectiveness, advantages and disadvantages of an EU-wide ecolabel scheme for fisheries and aquaculture products.
