Numerous studies have shown that the international fisheries trade has been rapidly increasing in importance. Exports increased by more than 11% each year between 1984 and 1994. International trading of a perishable product such as fish is highly complex in terms of organisation, transport, financial arrangements and administration as a result therefore a clear potential exists for international fish traders to benefit from current technological developments in internet trading and ‘e-commerce’.

This project looked at the potential benefits that e-trading could bring to the fishing industry, on both the demand and supply side, in the future.  The ultimate goal of the project was the provision of technological and financial tools required to reduce inefficiencies on both sides of trading transactions, resulting in significant savings in time, costs and service fees.
