The South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation is an inter-governmental organisation responsible for the long-term conservation and sustainable use of the fishery resources of the South Pacific Ocean and in so doing, safeguarding the marine ecosystems in which the resources occur. The SPRFMO Convention applies to the high seas of the South Pacific, covering about a fourth of the Earth's high seas areas. SPRFMO is in the process of establishing its Observer Programme, as is called for in Article 28 of its constituent Convention. Consistent with Article 28 of the Convention, the SPRFMO Observer Programme will be coordinated by the Secretariat. .
MRAG have been selected to to undertake the review and evaluation of any observer programme submitted for accreditation by a Member, CNCP or service provider. Each Member's observer programme will be assessed during the project.
MRAG will provide liaison with relevant Members, CNCPs, service providers, Chairpersons and the Secretariat throughout the evaluation process; The project team will review each nominated observer programs against the Commission’s minimum standards; and provide a detailed Final Evaluation Report to the Secretariat in respect of each programme nominated for accreditation in advance of the SPRFMO.
