The Overseas Development Administration (ODA, now DfID) of the UK Government funded a component of the Bangladesh Third Fisheries Project in Bangladesh. ODA targeted this input at institutional capacity within the Department of Fisheries at headquarters and divisional levels. It provides short-term in country training in areas Including planning, budgeting, reporting and information management.
The World Bank commissioned Dr Ian Payne, MRAG, in the role of Project Monitoring Specialist to the Third Fisheries Project. Within this role he reviewed the ongoing data collection systems on the floodplains of the Ganges and Bramaputra rivers. The Project Monitoring Specialist was responsible for authenticating survey systems, data collection and data handling systems for assessment of fisheries catch and performance with evaluation of social benefits. All other aspects of the Third Fisheries Project were revised twice yearly.
