Senior Consultant

Catherine Whitley is a Senior Consultant at MRAG with six years’ professional experience delivering sustainable fisheries management and stakeholder engagement. Specialising in UK inshore fisheries, Catherine has a high level of understanding of fishing policy, fisheries science and management, and fish ecology, with a Master’s degree in Marine Conservation from the University of Plymouth and an Undergraduate Degree in Marine Biology from the Newcastle University. Since joining MRAG, Catherine has extensive experience working in the fisheries sector in the UK, EU, West Africa, South America and Oman. She has been involved in a range of applied research, primarily in support of implementation and evaluation of national and international policy, as well as, expertise in fisheries science, marine protected areas, ALDFG mitigation management, socio-economic analysis and a proven track record in providing management recommendations for non-quota and emerging fisheries in the UK. Skilled in conducting literature and policy reviews, Catherine is also well practised in both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis (including RStudio and QGIS), as well as developing questionnaires, conducting semi-structured interviews and facilitating multi-stakeholder workshops.
